HOW WE REVIEW

Editorial Policy

Movie-Hmm is an independent written movie-review publication. Our job is to explain what we saw, why it worked or did not work for us, and how the published score follows from that criticism.

Our scoring rule

Scores are editorial judgments, not objective measurements. We do not change a score because a film is popular, unpopular, commercially successful, heavily promoted, or rated differently by another publication or aggregator.

• 9.0–10: HMM★ WOW — exceptional and deliberately rare.
• 8.0–8.9: HMM✓ YES — strongly recommended.
• 7.0–7.9: HMM✓ GOOD — a good film with meaningful strengths.
• 6.0–6.9: HMM? MAYBE — mixed; worthwhile for the right viewer.
• Below 6: HMM× NO — not recommended overall.

Independent opinion

We distinguish criticism from factual reporting. Public consensus may be discussed when it helps readers understand the reception of a film, but consensus does not determine our verdict.

Corrections

Material factual errors should be corrected when identified. Correcting a fact does not require changing the underlying critical opinion unless the corrected fact materially changes the analysis.

Conflicts and access

If Movie-Hmm receives complimentary access, promotional consideration, sponsorship, or another material relationship relevant to a review, it should be disclosed clearly on that review.
