OUR STANDARD

The score has to be earned.

Movie-Hmm exists for one purpose: written movie criticism that judges the film in front of us rather than the noise around it.

How we think about a score

Story and writing, screenplay and pace, performances, direction, technical craft, emotional impact and originality all inform the final judgment. The published number is not a mechanical spreadsheet result; the written review must support it.

Editorial rule

No score is adjusted because another publication, fan base or aggregator disagrees.
